The main thesis at the meeting was: Quality infrastructure is necessary for the effective functioning of domestic markets, and its international recognition is important for facilitating access to foreign markets. Past estimates by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) show that standards and related conformity assessment affect 80% of global merchandise trade. In addition, quality infrastructure is key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – it is essential to protect the planet, ensure a decent life for all people, and achieve inclusive economic growth and prosperity. It is based on metrology, standardization, accreditation, conformity assessment and market surveillance.
